The Parking Foundation

Easing the Burden of Hospital Parking
Because parking should never stand in the way of love, care, and presence.

The Parking Foundation was created to address a quiet but significant hardship faced by countless families: the high cost of hospital parking during times of medical crisis. For many, these fees add up quickly, creating financial strain at the very moment when families should be focused solely on care, healing, and being present for the people they love.

The foundation was established in loving memory of Stephen Louis Bilak, who spent 66 days in the ICU. During that time, Stephen’s family paid over $1,000 in parking fees—an unexpected and painful burden no family should have to shoulder while navigating the fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty of a medical emergency. His story reflects the experience of thousands of families across Ontario, and it is the reason this foundation exists today.

Why This Service Is Needed

Hospital parking is more than an inconvenience—it is a barrier.
A barrier to treatment.
A barrier to support.
A barrier to presence.

Patients undergoing long-term care, seniors attending frequent appointments, and families keeping vigil at a loved one’s bedside often face hundreds of dollars in parking costs each month. For many, this means choosing between paying for parking or meeting essential needs at home. The Parking Foundation exists to remove that barrier and ensure that no one is kept from care or connection because of a parking fee.

Our 2026 Rollout: Three Phases of Impact

Beginning in the first quarter of 2026, The Parking Foundation will launch its support program in three meaningful stages:

Phase 1 — Supporting Children with Cancer (OPACC)

Partnering with Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer, we will provide parking support for families whose children are undergoing treatment—families who already carry unimaginable emotional and financial weight.

Phase 2 — Supporting Adult Cancer Patients

Next, we will expand assistance to adults receiving cancer treatment, ensuring they can access lifesaving care without the added stress of parking costs.

Phase 3 — Supporting Families Visiting Hospitalized Loved Ones

Finally, we will support families who want to be present for loved ones in hospital but struggle to afford repeated parking fees. No one should have to limit their visits—or stay away entirely—because of cost.
